Our Story

We are Channa and Ruby Senaratne


We are Channa and Ruby Senaratne. We live in Coolum Beach on the beautiful Sunshine Coast. Channa was born in Sri Lanka and moved to Australia with his family when he was 12 years old.

To say that Sri Lankans are passionate about food would be an understatement, they are obsessed! Channa assisted his mother in her catering business while he was growing up and then later trained as a tandoori chef. In his early 20‘s he became a partner in the award winning Indian restaurant “Scheherazade” in Brisbane.

Ruby is also a qualified chef who grew up with a health conscious, natural therapist mother. Ruby loves to cook healthy food from scratch using the best quality local ingredients.

After we were married in 1995...


After we were married in 1995 we went on our honeymoon to Indonesia and from there travelled throughout South East Asia and to Europe, including eight months in Turkey. We returned to Australia from our honeymoon 8 years later with three children in tow! We spent a further five years in Indonesia from 2005, where we ran a surf charter boat which also assisted island communities affected by the 2004 tsunami and earthquake.

Throughout our journey, food has always played an integral part. A few of our food adventures include running a small cafe on a remote island off the coast of Nias, Indonesia, cooking on luxury charter boats, training numerous local chefs and running a catering business in Padang. It goes without saying that throughout all of our travels we ate all kinds of weird and wonderful food from epic wedding banquets to street food of every possible description. It is our joy to share some of our experiences with you through the dishes we create and the menus we design together. So please join us on our journey.
